On Saturday 16th September forty people, made up of smart home professionals and their family and friends, set off on a bike. Some on a 10 mile fun ride around Grafham Water reservoir. Those more hardcore took to the roads for a 57 mile cycle sportive event.
This was the inaugural Charity Fun Ride and Sportive event hosted by CEDIA, in commemoration of five colleagues who the industry has lost over the last two years. Suzanne Collin, Carmen Greenway, Bob Hobson, Alan Roser and Peter Lawn.
After volunteering to provide 'first aid and bicycle repair roadside support', last Saturday saw Presto's Geoff and Helen make their way to Grafham Water Park for the Sportive event. Fully armed with a bike rack, first aid bag and a bicycle repair kit (as well as Geoff's D of E skills!) they travelled in the support car behind the remaining cyclists. For most of them, it was their first ever long distance cycle ride!
Presto's first 'emergency' stop was for Matt Nimmons (Managing Director, CEDIA EMEA) whose bicycle chain had fallen off. Geoff's prompt action and and swift repair allowed Matt to quickly catch up with the rest of the group.
Around 31 miles in (that's 49 km for those of you younger than 45) the cyclists stopped for a brief comfort break in the scenic Northamptonshire village of Wadenhoe, where Helen's nursing skills were called into action. Following a quick clean with a wet wipe and an elastoplast dressing, all was fine and the cyclists were able to continue with the remaining 26 miles. Shocking if you consider this is the distance of the entire London Marathon!
From the comfort of the support vehicle, Geoff and Helen could only watch as each cyclist battled with the heavy and incessant downpour of rain. Through sheer grit and determination (helped by Helen's supply of jelly babies and wine gums) everyone made it back to Grafham Water Park in one piece.
Presto would like to thank CEDIA James for asking us to help out on Saturday and would like to congratulate everybody who took part and for raising a fabulous amount of money for Macmillian Cancer Support. We are in awe of the enthusiasm and dedication shown by you all.
It isn't too late to show your support. If you would like to donate, you can do so via CEDIA’s JustGiving Page.
