It seems a long time ago since we published our blog article - 'What is a Mobile Responsive Website?'
In fact it was December 2014, when the option of having a responsive website was still viewed by many as an 'added bonus'.
Fast Forward to Today
When it comes to responsive (or mobile friendly) web design for business websites, there’s no longer any question; if your website isn't a responsive design, you're making a huge mistake and could be harming your business.
We understand that to a business owner hoping to save money by putting off their website redesign, this may seem an audacious claim. So we've asked Google to help us explain.
Google Facts
For the first time in history, more people now perform searches on mobile devices than on desktops; a fact proven by Google in May 2015 and, if your site offers a great mobile experience, users are more likely to make a purchase.
When Google surveyed users on 'what they wanted most from a website':
- 52% stated a bad mobile experience made them less likely to engage with a company.
- When they visited a mobile-friendly site, 74% of people say they're more likely to return to that site in the future.
- 67% of mobile users say that when they visit a mobile-friendly site, they're more likely to buy a site's product or service.
Furthermore, Google is currently working on a 'mobile only' version of its search index, so if your business website isn't 'mobile-friendly' it will simply stop appearing in search results for the large majority of people.
In summary, responsive website design is the new norm. If your business doesn’t have a responsive website, you’re essentially handing over business to your competitors that do.
Can Your Business Afford to Miss Out?
An existing client of ours didn’t think so. Forces Recruitment Services noticed a dramatic upswing in mobile visitors to their website and asked Presto to work with them to develop a responsive design add-on for their site. As a result, the website became clearer and easier to use on both tablet and smartphone devices. In addition, it now meets Google's new guidelines for mobile-friendly listings.
Check If Your Website is Mobile-Friendly
Google has devised a simple 'mobile friendly analyser' to test if your website is responsive. Simply enter your website URL and the site will analyse its responsiveness.
